    Help identifying aquarium fish, please

We were at a hotel on the weekend and the lobby featured a large salt water aquarium. I was familiar with most of the fish but this one stumped me. Anyone know what it is?Fish 2.jpgFish 1.jpg

It was about 3 inches long and patrolled a very specific patch of coral.

    Thank you
And on the eighth day, God said, "OK, Murphy, you take over"

Thank you! I forwarded the info to the hotel.
(And I had a bet going with my wife that someone here would have an answer within a day. Less than 3.5 hours!)

We usually just say "Nickel Bet", a hold over from games she played with her favourite Grandfather.

Looks like a Banggai cardinal fish. It's from Indonesia and is a popular fish caught for aquariums. Collection for the aquarium trade has threatened this species with extinction. This increases the demand for captive-bred specimens. It is listed as an endangered species by the IUCN based on its small range, the fragmentation of its distribution, and its continuing decline due to exploitation for the international aquarium trade. In 2007, it was proposed that the species be listed for protection under CITES Appendix II, which could limit export of wild caught individuals, but Indonesia would not support this, and the proposal was withdrawn

that is why so many responsible aquariun owners insist on captive bread
but sadly there are just as many that are not responsible
thr starfish trade was the saddest
most starfish struggle in captivity, esp linkea. we would boycot any dealer or shop that carried them
