Are you going to be spotted with an SMB?

    Here's a very interesting article.

It's a good article and makes you think. I wonder why in the suggestions for the best kit a Naulitus Lifeline isn't mentioned?
If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks it needed to be replaced anyway.

If I'm diving from a boat in a situation where there is/could be current that could move me away I carry a flare gun. The plastic ones that come with 4 flares are cheap. I've taken them down and then tried to fire them at the surface to make sure they don't "drown" when submerged. They don't. They fire fine.
    Abandon all hope ...

I carry a SMB and reel but I do not use them the way you people do. If I am being dragged way from the boat or have been left behind I attach the reel to the weight belt and drop the belt so it anchors me in place. I use the SMB on the surface as a visual signal but never send it up from the bottom.

I don't use a weight belt Rich; but, it's a pretty good idea.

This is what you want. Carter is the top rated lift bag company so these are made very well so they can also be used as lift bags. They have a 10' bag that will lift 50lbs and a 7.5' bag that will lift 75lbs.

I found it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Carter-Persona...carter+cbpf-75
I have radar reflective strips on my DAN SMB. I hate to give that up. I do like the fact that it is a 10 footer though. I have emailed Carter and made a few suggestions aimed at the recreational scuba diver. Radar strips, stores easily, pocket for chem lights, whistle, mirror. Hopefully they can add these.

If you want to go crazy, OMS has a 16 foot SMB. They used to have a 10 foot but it looks like that is no longer available.
