    Howdy from Granbury

I'm an inactive PADI Divemaster living at Pecan Plantation.

My most recent dive was in August, 2004, at Palancar Reef. It was night, with the locals, and fellow airline pilot Todd Baker was my buddy. Todd was certified some fifteen years prior to me, in the late 1970s.

Todd's wife, Jennifer, has heard one too many of our dive tales and has decided to take up the sport. His teenage son, Chase, has volunteered to be her partner. Us two certified divers are planning on participating as much as possible, with the aim of updating our knowledge, skills, and equipment.

Fellow pilot/dentist Brady Rusk of Keene raves about Scuba Toys, and says the drive to Carrollton is well worth it.

The only rub I can think of, other than the extra 1 1/2 hours of driving each round trip: Jennifer is not too excited about the prospect of Texas lake diving, particularly in the winter months.

So, we're at the starting point, and exploring our options. Your ideas are most welcome!

    Welcome to the Forum.
I know Scubatoys does a great job with their training. You can't go wrong with that option.
My sister in law lives in northern Wisconsin. She didn't want to dive in that water either. I set her up with a local shop and their referral program, then she went to Mexico and did her check out dives there. Worked out great for her. Jennifer might want to consider that too.

I concur. Cozumel is a little more expensive than when you were there last, but it's still the best deal.

Well, I'll throw in that Scubatoys trains year-round in North Central Texas, and that from experience if you can dive a Texas lake you'll come to love having done so--when you arrive at blue water later.

Call Joey at ST, tell him I sent you, and he can aid you in getting your group taken care of.

Problem solved. Do the classroom and pool at Scubatoys, then hire one of their instructors to do the checkouts in Cozumel.

That's actually not much more expensive than doing it totally locally. And, Todd's lady is more likely to want to continue diving if she has a nice time.

Plus, if you rent a plane, you and your friends could log more hours.
