    XS Scuba valve question

I'm genuinely asking why they would make this valve: http://scubatoys.com/products/4908-x...serve-j-valve/

Thanks in advance for your input.

Some people (I've known a few.. not me though) like to dive "vintage" dive gear. Some of the older regulators (double hose) don't have a high pressure port for an SPG. So for them this is the only method of establishing reserve gas.

That said I'd think this kind of diver would want an actual vintage J valve. Either way I imagine XS Scuba has done some market research and established there is a demand. Can't say I've ever seen one of these new J valves at a dive site so who knows... I don't.

I'd also go with those wanting to dive vintage and maybe some folks who want an added safety of sorts. I've got one or two old 2250 J-valves at home, I don't think I'd want to dive them due to age - that and I'm not 100% sure where they are. One thing I could see is if someone is diving with a very strict DM who demands 500psi in the boat having the thing set up and dive until the J activates. The only problem is you're going to be in a world of hurt if the valve was inadvertently opened and nothing in the tank is nothing in the tank. Ahhh, the good old days....

    ETA: At $524.95, I don't think I'm THAT nostalgic.

I once saved a man in Wichita just to watch him dive...(inventor)

That kind of makes sense. I was just thinking that reviving the J-valve was a little odd considering the "quarter turn that kills" debate.

Manufactures have made some odd things; the 2005 Aqualung Mistral, the Hydro Optix mask, and the Mares HUB come to mind.
