Terrific diving in Malaysia, You are entering the rainy season though for peninsula Malaysia. The rainy season ends in May. Sipadan is South or the monsoon belt but off of the Island of Borneo and nowhere near KL. But it is a spectacular dive destination. Comparitvely diving accomodations in Malaysia are still a bit rural, but if you do not need 5 Star luxury accomodations you will enjoy yourselves.

All of the good diving is on the east coast and I have gone diving on each of the out islands, all very nice destinations. Malaysia remains relatively inexpensive as dive destinations go.

Attached is a link you may wish to visit.

I would reccomend Borneo Divers for Sipadan

Thats great information. Thanks. We are happy to 'rough it' to get in some good diving. We have some done some diving in Vietnam and in Thailand, I expect it would be similar to Thailand...maybe a little more 'untouched'

I am going to Layang Layang in April. I hear it is a great place for wall diving and big stuff. I did Sipadan in Sept of 08....Vis was about 30'....saw the wall of Barracuda once in 2 weeks...did not see much else other muck diving ....so you can guess my feeling about Sipadan.

Although Sipadan is below much of the wet weather April is still a bit early in the year, Best vis on Sipadan is June through August of course that is also middle of summer and the high season.

I noticed a few people have recommended Borneo Divers, but has anyone tried any of the following:

Sipadan Island Diving | Scuba Junkie | Scuba Junkie

    Sabah Divers - Diving Paradise

    Any comments would be helpful

I am diving and staying with Scuba Junkie. T-minus 4 days until I leave Doha... I will return on the 29th, and post a report thereafter.

So far, though, they've been helpful and kind by e-mail.

Oh, and as long as you're going to KL, you can quite easily get to Tawau in a ridiculously cheap fashion. Do it do it do it do it. Sometimes the best adventures in life are the ones you'd normally never take.

Thanks, look forward to the report. The main diffrence i've read is that Scuba Junkies are on the mainland and do Day Trips out to Sipadan, which is a little bit longer than from the more expensive resorts..

How long can i leave it before i need to book? I heard you need to get in quick?
