The most useful thing I've made is a hoop of 3/16ths inch diameter polyester line tied in a circle through a stainless steel bolt snap. I made 5 of them. The finished hoops are about 8 inches long when straightened out. The knots are stop knots which are very good at holding fast under load. I keep them on a 2 inch ring connected via a carabiner to a thigh pocket where I keep my main lift bag. When I find something like an anchor I can quickly pass the hoop through the opening in the anchor (or the anchor chain) and then pass the bolt snap through the hoop and hook the bolt snap to a ring on the lift bag. Makes it very fast and easy to hook onto odd-shaped items. I'll take some pics and post them. Not really high-brow stuff but I live in north central Texas and most of the diving around here is pretty murky stuff so scavenging is the only thing to go diving for and these quick-tach link things are great for quickly hooking on to some items I find (even if the silt-out gets so bad I can't see a #$#% thing I can still hook my finds up).

Here is a photo of what I'm talkin' about. Really simple, 3/16" polyester rope tied to a SS bolt snap. Finished length of rope hoop is about 8 inches, cut length is 24 inches before making the loop and the knots. Great for tying off to irregularly-shaped items or other stuff without a carabiner. Just pass the rope hoop through the item to be attached to (anchor eye, chain link, et cetera), then pass the bolt snap back through the hoop of rope...viola! Solid attachement!

ST has a really good price on 50 and 100 pound lift bags, too.... Have fun!

I made a 50' umbilical for kayak diving that allows me to leave the tank in the kayak as I tow it behind me while diving.

I made a simple handle for a finger spool by adding a long round splice.

I make small harness knives using cheap folding lock blades.

I have also made custom tank harnesses out of weight belt webbing, D rings and poprivets for confined space bail out bottles.

It was a gift but I have seen them around at sporting goods stores so they should not be hard to find. This is more of a multi-tool then a carabiner and is not rated to hold much of a load. The one I have is a Kershaw but there are other brands as well.
