    Hose Lengths?

I know this is going to sound like such a noob question, so I apologize. I have never measured the length of any of the hoses, but was wondering if you all could help me:

    Lengths:
Standard Recreational Primary Hose: ? in.
Standard Recreational Octo Hose: ? in. (I think it is around 33")

Standard Tech (DIR) Primary Hose: 5 ft. or 7 ft.
Standard Tech (DIR) Necklaced Hose: ? in.

My main inquiry is really the difference, if any, between the Recreational Primary length and the DIR Necklaced length. From the pictures I have seen, it looks like the necklaced hose is a little shorter than the primary rec hose. If that is the case, I think I would prefer the length of the necklaced hose as the length for my recreational primary.

If the lengths are different, please let me know if there would be any issues with using a shorter primary hose.

Even if your aren't going DIR it's a good learning tool. I enjoyed reading it and it changed many of the things I do. But to each their own.

Dive Rite Express has some information on recreational and technical hose lengths & configs. It's stashed under the regulator section.

I currently feel a little inadequate. I took my 7 foot hose off to go to St. Thomas. I put on a 33 incher.

Somehow I feel like less of a man.....

Thank you everyone for all the great responses. I go to work and thought I'd come back to one or two posts, but not six.

ES601: Thank you for the link. It does seem like it could be an all around good book, even though I'm not planning on getting into the technical aspects of diving anytime soon. Although I might want to eventually learn wreck diving and penetration with living near the great lakes and 6-8 hours from the Carolinas.

petard: Thank you for the specifics on the lengths. I guess the reason for considering the 22" hose, is that the 28" just seems to stick unnecessarily far out. Although, I guess if the shorter hose may impede turning the head fully to the left, then the longer hose is indeed necessary.

To the rest: Thank you all for taking the time to help out and pointing me in directions where I can find more information. It is very much appreciated.
