Classroom portion is at ScubaToys in Carrollton, TX; call the shop on Monday to get the information about start times and dates. Ask for Greg Williamson, ST's Director of Training.

Open water checkouts for AOW are at Lake Travis near Austin, TX. There is in fact one coming up this weekend--and yes, I'll be there both Saturday and Sunday if anyone wants to stop by and say hello!

How many nights do they meet? Why is the OW in Austin? Thats a little far from me, why not CSSP?
Wish I lived closer, thats a great price. It's $318 in my area

The AOW is done at Travis, rather than CSSP, because CSSP is not deep enough for the required "deep" dive. Bummer, I know, but driving your arm into the sludge at the bottom of CSSP to get a deeper max depth is regarded as poor form, and is really hard on wrist computers.

It has to be at least 60 feet, and most instructors want to go deeper than that, say to 100, to be able to have the AOW students experience, in a controlled environment, whether or to what extent they are affected by narcosis.

Our LDS does there open water at Lake Ouchita in Arkansas, I am thinking about doing it in June, but 100 ft would be so cold there! Maybe they will let me get by with 60ft.

I see. Well I really don't want to have to dig into the sludge to get cert. I want to do my Advanced, but it may have to wait until next year.

I'm planning on doing the June class. You should do it if you can! I'd love to hang out with you!
