Open water checkouts for AOW are at Lake Travis near Austin, TX. There is in fact one coming up this weekend--and yes, I'll be there both Saturday and Sunday if anyone wants to stop by and say hello! PPM |

The AOW is done at Travis, rather than CSSP, because CSSP is not deep enough for the required "deep" dive. Bummer, I know, but driving your arm into the sludge at the bottom of CSSP to get a deeper max depth is regarded as poor form, and is really hard on wrist computers.

It has to be at least 60 feet, and most instructors want to go deeper than that, say to 100, to be able to have the AOW students experience, in a controlled environment, whether or to what extent they are affected by narcosis.
