I didn't realize this until I learned German, but in American English - there are no rules, it just is. You learn it that way, and then forget all the rest-like why it's so. We don't know.

Hey! Here's one for your snappy comeback thread!

I've read that many irregular English conjugations have all ready fallen by the wayside, and that in Jolly Old (England) more and more "American" spellings and conjugations are being accepted such as dived v. (irregular) dove (or even diven!)

I have a hard time with "I dove that site" versus "I've dived that site." I may never figure it out.
