Lack of dive buddies. I do quite a bit of shore dive in Venice, FL looking for shark teeth. The viz at times is not the best so when you blink your buddy is gone. It has made me very experienced in navigation. It is nice and peaceful not having to worry about anyone but yourself. I think IMO that I've become a better diver and buddy when needed because of it.

Lack of visibility, in the area, some time here in NYC / Long Island the vis can be 3 ft and sometimes it can be 50... but when its 3-10 ft a budy that is just a few feet away does you no good, most everyone carries a pony or is wearing doubles so you have your alt. air right there I gave up on the budy system very early in my diving prob before my 20th dive, its just easier.

like many others , i started solo diving due to lack of available dive buddys,
later on there i would put my boat in myself and solo dive by choice . just less hassle with unknown/ unreliable dive buddys. i also had time when my regular dive buddy ( also my EX ) would bail out on a dive 10 mins before we were to leave home for the dive site , so i would get cranky and just go diving by myself. now days if i have the choice i will dive with a buddy , i have a few good competent reliable buddy's . i like to be able to share the experience, i also like to have someone to help me launch and retrieve the boat to lessen the strain on my old body , and a model for underwater photography is always good . matty |

Kind of the same boat i am in. There are a ton of local small strip pits.(oldcoal mines.) clear as the ocean Great diving. I plan on getting my ow this jan. I want to solo dive. But i do not plan on jumping in the first dive and doing get. My plan is the 5 months we will be in florida is to dive twice a week. Then maybe when we get back i will consider it. Not like i am going to dive 60 feet in the ocean just 10 to 15 feet shore dives. HEck the places around here are so small if i floted to the other side when diving. I would be lime 50 from where i went in.
