Issues with solo diving.

GOt a question. Yes i know it is not advised to do this. But my understanding is that cdi is the only cert agency that has a solo coarse. Can you get in trouble for solo diving without it or can you lose your cert card. I know this properly sounds stupide just wondering.

The are no SCUBA police out there are you going to turn yourself in. Your C-cards is safe.

Now as far as safety that's another issue. You really need to know what your going and have the proper mindset. Gear is a other story but when your at that point where you can do it safely your know what gear your need and have experience with it. You know I have swam into many wrecks many times without a buddy. Don't have any Solo cert. card. I really think training is good and a good instructor is very important but experience it just as important. A cert. card is only as good as the training you received and your experance up to that point.

Big,

As others have said BANISH thoughts of solo diving for now. While there are no scuba police, until you have been diving for a bit, you don't even really know what you don't know. Be thinking about strategies to develop dive buddies.

International Training :: Get Certified :: Solo Diver Course :: English
Quote:
One of SDI’s most popular courses, the solo diver program teaches experienced recreational divers how to safely dive independently of a dive buddy or strengthen your buddy team skills. The course stresses on proper dive planning, personal limitations, accident prevention as well as the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for diving solo. You will also learn the additional equipment that is required for solo diving including it's proper usage and assembly. This is the prefect course for underwater photography and underwater video divers.
For solo Diving Cert per SDI Policies and Standards
Min Age 21
Min Cert of Advanced Diver or Equivalent
Min 100 Logged Dives
Medical Release
and Signed Wavers

And no, no one is going to come and take your O/W cert away if you go solo diving

Actually, there is one and only one scuba cop out there. Her name is Karma! She will come up and bust you when you least expect it and when you are not prepared for it. She's not bid on forgiveness, but if you survive the encouter, hopefully you will learn.

But if you don't have a solo card and you solo dive at an owned site (i.e a quarry or lake that has rules) you will be thrown out. If you're on a charter and lose your buddy too many times, they will deny you dives.

As Flatliner and a lot of us have advised, I would stop thinking about solo diving until you have gotten lots of experience.

It is still, marginally, a free country, you can do as you please. Some private dive sites and some parks may require a buddy, other than that you can dive solo to your hearts content.

Why do you claim solo diving is "not advised" ?
