So... um...I have no idea; I just meant it was something I'd be thinking about the next time I get hooked up with an insta-buddy (that if something happens to this person, that a bereaved relative and an attorney could get together and sue me). It is not something I'd thought about previously.

I dive with insta buddies, never, well rarely felt threatened. For the most part I've had good luck with them and to be honest I think that those of you who refuse to dive with people you don't know are missing out on making new friends.
Not every diver out there is dangerous, to assume they all are may be safe, but it's not as fun. I've turned some dangerous divers into good divers I enjoy diving with. I was mentored and I owe it to others to mentor them as well.

Good point! Not every instabuddy is bad.No matter what their experience I plan for a self rescue, but I still keep a keen eye on them. I can only hope they do the same for me.

I was a commercial diver working with another commercial diver in 112'. Both of us were using single tanks because we were on a boat and our surface supply gear was on a rig.
Mike was a BIG guy and sounded like a locomotive when he breathed. Job over and we started to ascend. Mike ran out of air and literally climbed up my body and grabbed my regulator out of my mouth. We were around 60' when he freaked. I shucked my tank, dropped my weights and went free to the surface. Never argue under water! My navy instructor told us (with the panicked ppl) to, "let them drown and save them afterward". |
