Seriously....I did see one at about 20' deep it just went on and on...from what I understand it is made up of several anemones...also I have never seen a 6' tall 3' around barrel sponges....I was a Palau diver until I hit Bali & East Timor last year....This last half of this year.....I'm spending in Indonesia.

I live in Port Moresby....
Tawali is quite nice, but it takes about 2 hours to transfer from the airport to the resort. The steaks are fantastic while you are there, and the rooms are about as best as you are gonna get in PNG. The place is co-owned by the owner of OCEANIC but other co-owner - Rob Vanderloof is usually at the resort. Really nice guy.

Air Niugini is continuously late or canceled to/from Alotau so NEVER NEVER NEVER book your outbound flight in Port Moresby too close to your intended departure date. It's better to fix in a day or two in Port Moresby on your way out..at least you can do a couple dives at Loloata or go bushwalking.

During the surface interval at Tawali, you can check out the 'skull caves'...freaky and a macabre story behind all that...I'll let you experience it.

Have fun!

Chris what is they diving like in Tawali?....what do you see?....I am thinking of going next year but do not want to make a mistake. I am currently in Wakatobi which to some people who love Macro are in Heaven....I'm not...I like action....Is Tawali like that?

I didn't see 'action' up there in Tawali. But it depends on the year - there is the windy season and the dry season. I did a pretty nice muck dive - ghost pipe fish and interesting other critters.

Kavieng has pelagic action, from what I heard, I'll be going up there soon.

I just came from Madang - saw hammerhead that came right at me, lots of whitetips, spotted eagle rays, attacking trigger fish, and some kinda biting fish that looks like frogs hidden in the sand...plenty o' action.....

Port Moresby has had some recent action, there's this massive grey nurse shark that's been hanging around that torpedoes into divers...
There're nice wrecks around here as well, saw a pretty good size shovelnose near a tugboat wreck

Tufi has mandarinfish, reef shark, great vis and a gorgeous view from your hut.

I leave this place in June, let me know if you are coming before then.

It looks like I'll get to go to Tawali in June... about mid month for a few days.

The reports are making me pretty anxious to check it out!

Larry I have talked to a couple of people who have been there...they rave about the diving....just the dive operation was in need of better people....one of the owners I believe has moved there to try to smooth out the operation....If they could duplicate Wakatobi...WOW that would be great....I was looking at going in April but Layang Layang called
