The matresses are about twice as thick as what we had in the Navy, so I sleep pretty good on them.

Of all the reasons not to go, I think that may have been the worst. I'm actually at 13 cancelled trips in a row, which makes me hesitant. I understand why though, considering I usually try to go in the Feb-March timeframe. It seems like I can book six trips in a row, all cancelled, then the next weekend when I can't go for some other commitment, then it goes.

<DIV>I did one March trip and, while it was good, I decided I prefered warmer waters for that much diving in neoprene. </DIV>

The best time to not worry too much about cancellations is July. You'll always see critters, but big critters (sharks) are mostly prevalent during the time frame when things are most likely to get cancelled (February and March)

August is the calmest seas as long as there is not a tropical storm. Spring is the time for hammerheads (and tiger sharks). Summer is the time for silkies and the rare whaleshark. I've seen lots of silkies and occasionally other varieties (bull, sandbar...)in August and September. Mantas are fairly regular July thru Sept.

If you are traveling any distance to go to the FGB, it is always good to have a plan B. But from NO, you would probably be able to start driving the morning of the departure and turn it around at 1 pm if they make the call to cancel.

Cost wise for the basic 2 night trip it is not bad for what you get.

It is a good learning experience for many newer divers.

Its a great trip to use nitrox on because of the possible number of dives and the typical dive depths.

Nice boats//good food and caring staff.
Amen....

The flower gardens are a great value. My first trip to the FGNMS was with only 20 dives and no Bluewater. But...I had a good buddy. I was more than comfortable in my skills EXCEPT navigation but I was able to rely on my buddy to help there. The only negative I've found at the FGNMS is that the current can be strong which isn't that bad as long as you are fit enough for the swimming.

Bottom line. Enjoy the trip.....

Is there anything to see in October because that is the first time I will be able to go with my local shop. They seem to stop going out there mid October, too cold, seas too rough?

October is still good diving, but there is a reasonable chance of getting blown out. Just wait until they make the call (about noon) before you start driving down.
