Proposed Photo Contest

Wanted to see what everyone thought about starting an STF photo contest. I borrowed the basic concept from an on-line photo site but thought it worked well there so it should work here. Please read the basic layout and post what you think. Ideas, suggestions or problems please post and we can look at changes........

I am not a MOD and I do not intend to make more work for them BUT there could be some things a MOD could do that would make the contest run smoother.(I am not sure what because I do not know what they are allowed to do) Any suggestions here would be good also.


This is just the concept. Please do not post any photos yet!!

The rules are simple...

) Post a diving related photo that relates to the specific topic for the current Contest.
) Only 5 photo's allowed per contest. If your photo does not make it into the current contest please wait until your photo's topic is featured again to post.
) Each Contest will have a topic. Please only post pictures that fit within this topic.
) Photo's will be voted on by other STF members. Please do not vote for your own photo.
) Contest winners choose the next Contest topic from the Contest topic list. (Post your suggested topic selection along with your photo)
) No nudity or obscenity will be allowed. We are a family friendly group. (Most of the time)
) Play nice and play by the rules.

The Contests will be in any one of 3 stages. The title/subject line of each Contest will indicate which stage the Contest is currently in:

(OPEN) = The Contest is waiting for 5 photos to be posted.
(VOTE) = 5 photos have been posted. Please vote for your favorite photo in the Contest.
(Winner) = We have a winner. A new Contest will be started soon.

Fish Portraits
U/W Creatures (any U/W creature not a fish)
Macro Life
Corals
Wide Angle Sea life
Wide Angle Landscape
Divers
Dive Life


The title/subject line will also indicate each Contest's current topic. Each photo must select a new topic from the topic list. Post your suggested topic selection along with your photo. If your photo wins the Contest we will use your topic selection for the next Contest.

How do we Vote? (If you don't like this we can run it as a poll)

Voting is sequential. This is a standard way to vote in many on line groups. Voting is accomplished by adding a digit to the vote above yours. You will notice in the example below there is a column of 5 digits. Each column represents a photo within the Contest. Column #1 represents photo #1 and column #2 represents photo #2. Column #3 represents photo #3 and so on. Voting continues until one photo receives 5 votes.

0-1-0-0-0 (This is a vote for the 2nd photo.)
0-1-1-0-0 (This is a vote for the 3rd photo.)
0-1-1-0-1 (This is a vote for the 5th photo.)
0-2-1-0-1 (This is a vote for the 2nd photo.)
1-2-1-0-1 (This is a vote for the 1st photo.)
2-2-1-0-1 (This is a vote for the 1st photo.)
2-2-1-1-1 (This is a vote for the 4th photo.)
3-2-1-1-1 (This is a vote for the 1st photo.)
4-2-1-1-1 (This is a vote for the 1st photo.)
5-2-1-1-1 (This is a vote for the 1st photo and #1 is the winner.)

So...Whada ya think?

Simpler to just send in one photo, give it a number and then after about a month have everyone pick the number they liked best. Eliminates a bunch of BS.

Who do you sent to? If you just start a new post saying "photo contest" you will get a bunch of BS..........

Asking for sugestions and ideas and it has to be specific so everyone on the forum can pick it appart.

Good idea. Voting is a little weird. We can add to the list of photo topics.

do it as a pole, list the pic numbers in the pole, and vote that way, set the voting for like 5 days, and at the end the pic with the most wins

Oh great! Another contest I don't have an underwater still or video camera to use to make entries.

Here's a quick way to make it easier. Start a forum for the contests, post a message for entries with the theme, once the min/max number of entries are received turn it to a poll with the title of the photo and set a time limit for voting.

I don't want you to send me your photos..... I want you to post them. I am sure you have some very nice pictures but I don't want them getting mixed up with mine.....

Sounds great, i'd love to see what members come up with! I agree with LaCroix42-just create a new topic and leave it just for entries, have another topic for discussion.
