We landed on Mars!!!

Well, not "we", but rather a machine "we" built, and we figured out how to get it there in one piece. Isn't that just awesome!!

Now, if we only would have spent those billions of dollars taking care of existing problems here on our own planet............

Yeah, we need to worry about our planet before some other planet...

But you just wait....if we just happen to find so much as a fossil of a once living bacteria there, we'll be stoked, and spend billions more finding out where it came from.

Hello NASA, we already know that there IS life on earth, and we could use a little help down here. I guess it's not important because we already know about us. What's the adventure in that?

I say those jobs shouldn't have been created in the first place. That's a moot point at this stage though huh. I guess what bothers me is our eagerness to explore other worlds while at the same time we don't have our own figured out yet.

Alot of the technology we enjoy today is a by-product of space exploration.

To me this is the biggest reason to continue funding NASA. The ancillary technology they developed has greatly aided mankind. In the end this may be a key factor in ending world hunger as well as easing global strife caused by things like energy and water access.

See, there are many different ways to look at it. I'm not going to disagree with any of you, but honestly (in my opinion) I don't see the good outweighing the bad. We can argue the positive aspects of space exploration all we want, but I don't see any problems here being solved as a result of what we find (or have found) out there. It is interesting to read other viewpoints though.

This is true and I personaly would rather see them focus on the moon or space stations more than mars. But to me it is not about wat we find so much as the potential to develope better technology that can in turn help us here. That said I can not think of any great developments recently.
