Question Missing Church Services When Diving

In his response on another thread, BuzzF177 raises a point I've wondered about. I attend church services every Sunday to sing in the Choir, unless it's a dive day.

I actually feel a bit *guilty* about missing services on Sunday. I said a bit.

For those who regularly attend, do you give it a second thought?

This question applies to Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Shintoists, Wiccans, Witnesses, Mormons, etc...

I don't attend services regularly, as I no longer am a practicing member of the organized religion in which I was raised. I consider myself a taoist now, and consider the way in which I live my life an expression of my spirituality and beliefs. If anything, I feel more in touch with that while diving.

You can honor God whether you went to church Sunday morning or not. If I understand correctly, Church is a modern day activity, not a biblical one anyway...

Im sure you didn't mean it that way, but If i went to church *only* to sing in the choir I wouldn't feel guilty for two reasons.

1) Im goin for the wrong reason
2) Nobody wants to hear me sing.

"Rapture of the Deep"

  • Buoyed by water, he can fly in any direction — up, down, sideways — by merely flipping his hand. Under water, man becomes an archangel.
  • The future is in the hands of those who explore... and from all the beauty they discover while crossing perpetually receding frontiers, they develop for nature and for humankind an infinite love.
  • We forget that the water cycle and the life cycle are one.
JC's words of wisdom. Jacques Cousteau, that is.

For le Commandant, diving was a church service.

If we are doing local diving, I try my best to be there. But if we are away, I don't worry about it. We are very involved in our church (music & children's ministry) so we try to be there as often as possible. We have been known to sneak out after the music is over to go diving before though if we weren't working with the children that day. So I guess to answer your question, we try to go after service.
