16 yr old daughter just got her first real job

I bought her a new car because she kept up her side of the deal and kept a 4.0 her first 2 years of high school. But by God she was gonna pay for the gas. Broke my heart when she would ask for gas money and I said no. And the car sat in the garage.

Well, she just peed in the cup and starts training Saturday as a hostess at a local sports bar.

heck don't remind me!! my daughter is a couple of years away and she is already asking about her car. same deal, good grades and honors and yes a job!! gas isn't cheap but neither is insurance !

Yeah, intitially I planned on her paying insurance too, but now, gas is the bigger nut. I figure payiing for that is more Pavlovian.
And she is in Honors, plays Varsity soccer and the is the Year Book sports editor. So...

Oh, believe me I have. This particular bar is one of my haunts.

My parents' rule concerning owning a car was simple: you can have a car when you can afford the loan payments, gasoline, maintenance costs, and insurance payments.

I owned my first car (used Austin Healy Sprite) during my last year of college.

I can't believe you have to pee in a cupt to ask at a sports bar "How many in your party?" (I guess things have changed.)

this will be a wonderful lesson for her about life and how to budget for things and how she has to make choices in her life based on her paycheck. It'll give her a good kick-in-reality-lesson over some other 'spoiled' kids.

I'll make her think twice about fussing about not getting that cool IPOD when she has to figure out how to pay for it herself.
