A father grounded his 12-year-old girl for disobeying him. She takes him to court. Judge overturns the grounding punishment. We just can't violate her civil liberties, now can we?
Court overturns father's grounding of 12-year-old So, were you an obedient child? If not totally obedient, what was your worst rule-breaking episode concerning parents? What was the punishment? Did you serve it out, or find a way to escape, as did the young girl in the article? Confession is good for the soul...

For starters, why is this case wasting the courts time? I don't want to disrestpect our good neighbors to the north, but does this carp happen with any regular frequency???? I mean WTF!?
Second who and where is this kid getting the money for a lawyer and why is the court interveneing in a private/family matter? That said, yeah, I did some not so good things and usually got my butt beat for it. Except for that getting caught with chewing terbacky-was sick as a dog for a week after I got done chewing the whole pack for dad and was not allowed to spit. Still have nightmares on that one.

The case has nothing ot do with parental rights. It's a missuse of court time to conduct a vendeta between two peole who are divorced and hate each other. Unfortunately, the court stepped squarely into this one. Hopefully, someones robes will flutter.

A friend of mine was disciplining his daughter. She threatened to call DCS. He handed her the phone. Then he explained how DCS would place her in foster care while things got sorted out. Meanwhile he would be living in his own home and sleeping in his own bed. She reconsidered her hollow threat.
P.S. the government has no business undermining parents authority, as long as the child is not being abused. The judge in this case must not be a father.

The court should never have been involved. I agree that the "10 year custody dispute" probably was the reason. The mother probably pushed the issue. As a police officer, I have had to deal with parents using their children as pawns for divorce and child custody issues. I also have had to deal with parent who do not disipline their children and expect the police to do that for them. I think this man should be given a reward for actually knowing what his child is doing and taking action when she does something wrong or against the rules.

if my child did that, off to foster care. sounds like there are more problems than realized. posting inappropiate pictures of herself on the net. what kind of judge would disagree with the parent in that case, oh wait it really was a florida judge not a canadian judge

So to answer Vercingetorix's question here goes.
1. Were you an obedient child? Not really 2. What was your worst rule-breaking episode concerning parents? Lighting Cherry bomb's and flushing Down the schools toilet so School would get out early. Flood from broken Pipes. (Nobody was hurt) 3. What was the punishment? 2 Month grounding 4. Did you serve it out? Down to the Last Minute!
