Yea, I read that on digg.com too. I somehow don't get it. You would think that structure would be more room to live and breed, and that the more structure, the more life a body of water would support. I cant imagine that this pulls fish away from other areas as much as it does create more places for fish to live and therefore more fish overall.

I wish they'd actually cited some studies in specific rather than be so general.

It stands to reason, whenever "man" tries to do something with the best of intentions it usually ends up wrong down the road.

The article states that the NYTA will save money by "Dumping" the subway cars in the ocean. I don't believe it. By the time that they clean them up for artifical reef use, they will have spent more money than if they sold them for scrap. JM2c

The USS Saipan was decomissioned last year and readied for sinking as an artificial reef. (Date has been postponed indefinetly) She took only 3 months and very limited resources to do so and she was a hell of a lot more complex than 300 subway cars-guaranteed. Of course we used the ships crew as labor, but I'm sure there is a minimum security prison somewhere in Maryland where the inmates need something to do!
