Fuel costs

This was an idea that we were talkinmg abotu on a crafting board. how has the price of fuel taken away from your hobby? Interest? vacation? and lesiure time.

At teh crafting board many women have gone to swaps for fabric and supplies that they have hoarded and are not using. Seems to be the number one way to make ends meet in their interest.

here gas is just under 4 bucks a gallon and with our pay its causing us to go to cheking advance places just to run our routes, afford food and pay the few bills we have.

Do oyu find that because oif that you are making do, repairing, trading or swapping equipment, limiting diving vacations and staying at home. I am sure this thread has been done before.. but its interesting to keep up.

Julie,
I'm not trying to preach or tell you you how to run your finances BUT, These are predatory lenders and you WILL (not may, WILL) end up paying MUCH MUCH MUCH more in the long run. Being in the Military we are warned about these places all the time. They are banned in many states, and in some of those that they aren't they are prohibited from operating within a mile of a military base. They prey on people having trouble making ends meet and have caused thousands of military member to lose security clearances and/or careers. Most interest rates run in excess of 300%APR. Stay clear. We are told if we are having troubles go to the bank and take out a signature loan at 12% It really beats the 300% any day.

End of Soap Box!

Agreed, don't give those scum your hard earned dough.
About your question though, yes I think fuel prices are affecting us all, and in many different ways. When fuel prices rise, EVERYTHING rises. It's a losing battle and it really sucks.

I have a grand cherokee and I am going to sell it soon for something that gets better gas mileage, that alone should almost cut the amount of money I spend a week on gas in half which will be nice.

Lucky for me I have a few friends that dive so we all split the gas on road trips.

I agree with the people above, avoid those check advance places, they are just trouble.

We have skipped a few dives over the price of fuel. Hubby has a diesel truck so we alway think about how inportant the trip is befor we drive it.

It's easy to see how the fuel costs are affecting diving...

just go to your LDs and you'll most likely find it EMPTY on a saturday.

It's not that gas is keeping them from the LDS on weekends, but gas cost so much and other cost increases, such as groceries, you're seeing people with much less disposable income that they might have spent on scuba. so they aren't diving as much, going on trips as much , which means they don't need to buy dive gear as much.

go down to any beach area this week during the prime summer months and you'll see VACANCY signs on the hotels that you would not have seen in past years. It's because of the economy and gas prices and less money in your wallet afterwards.

I'm diving more locally and flying less. I'm also driving slower on the interstate which is increasing my gas mileage dramatically. Diving seems to be a good value at 6 or 8 bucks a fill. I also found a shop that, at least for now, gives free fills when you get your tank VIP'd with them!

We're diving a lot less than we'd like to, that's for sure. And some of the charters are having to cancel frequently due to not enough divers to cover the cost of fuel. It is sad, and I don't know that it is likely to get much better anytime soon.
