An alright movie with some good dive footage
So, awhile back I broke down and picked up a copy of The Cave on DVD for about $10. Watched it a few times, but had not watched it in probably a year. So, last night after putting the kids to bed, we popped it in. I had forgotten how beautiful the Cenotes were that they filmed in. Some amazing underwater footage captured by Wes and his crew. Yes, there are errors in the technology, but the footage is stunning.
However, if you've never watched the DVD, it is well worth the $10 in order to watch the short documentary, Into the Cave, about Wes and Jill (Karst Productions) in the extras. They do a 10 minute special that includes some of their best footage of not only caves, but the amazing iceberg dive they did down in Antarctica. I had limited interest in cave diving until watching some of the video shot by Wes. Absolutely stunning to see the beauty of the caves. Below are some examples of Wes' work taken from his webpage: ![]() ![]() ![]() So, if you find yourself with some time, pick up a copy of The Cave and check out the documentary. You might find yourself wanting to look into a Cave Course as well. |

"The Cave" is one of those semi-crappy, kinda cheesy movies that are actually fairly entertaining. I like the movie. It's not based in reality, but I don't remember feeling my intelligence was insulted while watching it. I'd call it a good popcorn flick. If you're into home theater its got a decent soundtrack too.

Yup. Not a bad movie, but the special features really make it worth the $10 caroln, I'd love to see the complete footage from Antarctica. I've heard Jill's interview about it with Joe Cocoza. That, combined with the teaser from Into the Cave has me really curious. |
