Just an FYI...

If it ever crosses your mind to tell the police officer you're speaking to that you've been paying taxes in whatever town for however many years (or even better, you pay his or her salary)... DON'T... It's not ever gonna get you anywhere... Sorry, I just had to vent...

Also when you get pulled over for speeding and you tell the officer you were speeding because you were running late, don't go on to tell him that now you will have to speed even more since he just made you even later.

I once got stopped for accelerating too fast. I did not squeal the tires or exceed the speed limit. That vette had some "giddyy up." I told officer friendly that I knew there was a speed limit, but I was not aware of an accelration limit. I don't think he was too amused, but he ended up not giving me a citation.

Some questions that I still have:
If there is an acceleration limit: just how many miles per hour per second is allowed? Does it apply equally when stopping as when starting? Is it also unlawful to stop too fast? Is it the same limit when I'm merging into 70 mile an hour traffic as it is when I'm pulling out from a stop sign in a quiet neighborhood.

I'm posting a link to a you tube video that concerns being pulled over among other things. It's long (45 min), take what you can use and forget the rest.

Caveats:
I'm not a lawyer and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
I'm not a member of the ACLU.
I totally respect Law Enforcement.
I've worked with Law Enforcement at the Federal, State, and Local Levels.
I know many people in Law Enforcement that I consider friends.

However, If I get pulled over or arrested, I will use all of my resources and education to get out of trouble.

cheers

Though I don't entirely disagree with you, there is a classification of "wreckless driving" in which all of your senarios would fall into. It is kind of a "catch all" for police officers. Accelerating too fast can be and is very wreckless (not that what you were doing would classifiy). I've witnessed people come close to loosing control of the vehicle when doing so and not paying attention.

Gone are the days of getting a written warning or reduced speeding citation (14 mph over, instead of 16). All of the traffic cops around here are using radar/laser devices that are linked to the video recorder. They also are mic'ed, so audio is being recorder (they have to inform you of this by law). All of this electronic recording has taken away their "personal discretion". If they let somebody go, there is a record of it. They will have to explain that to their boss (Lt, Capt, Chief, etc.)

It's 1984. They might as well get rid of the traffic cop and just use the cameras that are installed along the roadside and send you a citation in the mail.
Automated Traffic Enforcement
Oops, they already are doing this. I'm gonna start wearing a disguise

I once got pulled over for going the posted speed limit. Unfortunately, I was in a construction zone and apparently I wasn't supposed to pay attention to the posted speed limit, I was supposed to go whatever the speed limit was in the construction zone. I was trying to get my son to a swim meet so decided not to get into a big discussion with the police officer about the reasoning for not covering up the sign with the 55 mph sign when the speed limit was apparently now lower. I guess my big mistake was passing the police car in the first place.....
