A new web-browser has entered the arena. This one, developed over the past 5 years by the team at Google.
Will it unseat MS Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox? Will it even make a dent? to learn more: Google Chrome - Download a new browser

I doubt it'll make a dent.....too many folks like FF3 despite their having to close it when it ramps up the RAM at times.......seems to be a bit more secure than IE7. It looks ok so far (yes I'm playing with it too......can't support it if ya don't know how well it plays with others!!)

I'd rather see Firefox succeed. Unless Google is going to out-do them right out the door, AND launch with the same mind-boggling array of plugins.
If I wanted yet another browser (let alone a webkit-based one), I'd probably allow Apple to install Safari (which they keep trying to do in underhanded ways anyway). On the PC, it's IE when I have no choice. Firefox when I do. On the Mac, it's a mix of Firefox and Safari. IF they manage to compete with all three on the basis of plugins, and offer better stability and a smoother cross-platform transition (the same experience on each platform, but each subtly optimized with platform-specific features, like native control boxes and Services/Applescript integration), then it could be interesting, and I'd consider dumping Firefox for Chrome. It seems unlikely, though... and frankly, I don't see how compatibility with the web would be enhanced, since, on the Mac, some sites work better on Safari (webkit engine) and others work better on Firefox (mozilla/gekko engine). Dumping FF would leave me with two webkit engines... and I don't think the web is there yet. There are still sites that require IE, for crying out loud. |
