I shot some Eagles today

With my camera, of course...

It was colder that heck (6 degrees at the time) but the eagles were out and flying over the Mississippi at the dam... the turbulance of the lock keeps the river cleared for a mile or so downstream, and all the eagles in the neighborhood show up to fish. There were about 50 out today, but I have seen as many as 200 at a time in the past.

Here are a couple of pictures I shot:

Photoshop? No.

Post process in any way? Yes, but I shot RAW which basically means I ran them through the raw conversion process, which involves color balancing and sharpening.

I shoot Nikons and post process in Capture NX. I balanced the colors a bit to make the sky look what the sky looked like and I did a bit of Unsharp Mask (since RAW provides absolutely no sharpening whatever), and cropped em just a bit here and there (since birds flying through the sky at 40MPH are kind or hard to track perfectly). That's about it.

I virtually never use Photoshop on my land pictures, since I dislike using the program intensely (I have been using it for more than 15 years now and I have always disliked it)... on my underwater stuff, I use it because of the channel mixer and to eliminate backscatter, but I do what I have to do in PS and get right back into programs that I like to finish the pictures.

Excellent pics! I know the eagles love to hunt at the dams because the fish kick up a little easier there. I definitely thought you used Photoshop, but I guess otherwise now with your explanation. Great shots.
