Today, my nephew Corey, did a Discover Scuba session. He turned 13 on 23 Jan. As a birthday present, I gave him a dive knife (purchased from ST, of course). Then, I told him that represented his "real" present, that being the Discover Scuba. ever since I got into scuba a couple years ago, he's wanted to as well.
We did it today, during the ScubaDillo Dive Club Pool-lympics which we do to practice our skills and prepare for the upcoming dive season. Corey's instructor was David Prichard, who is very well-known among dive photographers (he and his wife's photos are published about eight times a year in Dive Training magazine as well as others). Corey is a very active kid. He's in baseball nearly all year, track, and football. He's been in soccer and the band as well. Smart kid, too. Who knows,...he may end-up being my dive buddy someday. Coz...here we come!!! ![]() ![]()

Thanks guys. I'll pass on your good words to him. If he shows an interest, my next gift will be that I'll pay half his certification costs. I want Corey to pay half to "add value" because he would have a vested interest.
ScubaToys OW cert is $250 (I got all my training from ST, which is NAUI). However, his instructor for Discover Scuba is a good friend(PADI). Frankly, I don't give a darn which agency; OW is OW. During the session, I was able to observe David as an instructor to see how he is with students, especially young students. We'll see.
