It is sobering to read the citations of those who've been awarded this Medal, especially those who received it from WWII onward.

For every metal citational there are 100s if not 1000s that were not witnessed. Every person in combat is a hero. They provide us with the freedoms that we so callously throw away. Hats off to each and every one of them!

It was around the wwII timeframe that they adjusted the process/requirements of how this medal was awarded.

There has always been, still is and always will be those select individuals that go above and beyond to help another individual. When your feet hit the sandbox patriotism flys right out the window, your greatest asset is your battle buddy
