Anyone else here also into kayaking?
<DIV></DIV> <DIV>I would think a lot of SCUBA types probably enjoy being on the water in lots of different ways.</DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>I have gotten into recreational kayaking lately and love to get out on the weekends with my two daughters. I am teaching them an appreciation of nature, water, and the like.</DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>Anybody else?</DIV>

My kayak is not well suited for diving out of -- its a Native Watercraft Ultimate. Its very good for carrying lots of stuff (to paddle out and do a shore dive), but not good for water entries and exits -- its more like a canoe.
<DIV></DIV> <DIV>One of this months magazines--I think its Diver Training or something like that, has a whole article on Kayak diving.</DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>My Ultimate Kayak, however, is the most comfortable and useful kayak I have had for recreational type kayaking. The seats come out and serve as beach chairs. Its very cool.</DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>www.nativewatercraft.com</DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>

It doesn't take much of an anchor to station an empty kayak or two. And they are nicely visable.
<DIV></DIV> <DIV>The only downside is from a rescue standpoint: make sure you have a method for shore contact in case someone gets in trouble...you can't "motor" back to the dock nearly as fast.</DIV> |

I wanted to bring this thread back up because I have some questions.
<DIV></DIV> <DIV>Are there any dive kayakers close to north Texas? My dive buddy and I have decided that this is the next phase of our diving obsession. I want to go diving with some kayakers to see how everything is done, talk about equipment, suggestions on what they would do differently if they were just getting into kayaks etc...</DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>I've checked out some kayak diver websites that were very informative, but there is nothing like first hand experience. Besides, I moved from Missouri about a year ago and since it's the "Show Me State", well, I gotta see it for myself.</DIV> |

Ionly do whitewater, the kayaksI use I don't think would make a very good dive unit, I think the additional weight of the dive gear would sink it...
![]() <DIV>I have been looking at the "sit on top" units for flat water paddling, and I think they would work well for going to close dive sites.</DIV> <DIV></DIV> |

Here is a good site on kayak diving:
http://www.kayakdiver.com/kayakdiving/topics.htm Talks about equipments, how to anchor, how to put on wetsuit on the kayak...etc. |
