Comments on a Bauer Air compressor for sale on EBay?

I am just curious about what services and tests would be needed to bring it up to spec IF I bought a previously used Bauer Air Compressor system? (I know that on EBay it is "buyer beware" big time!!!)

This is the sellers comment:-

This is a Bauer Air compressor rated at 15 CFM @ 3500psi and a set of Breathing Air System's filter canisters with 7000psi stamped on one of them, it was use to fill air tanks for a firefighter training course and was still working when I bought it in 2006, I have not started it but I'm sure it should run, but I'm selling it AS IS

The EBay link is -
BAUER Air Compressor (15CFM) @ 3500psi with Filters - eBay (item 230344306108 end time May-27-09 10:49:16 PDT)

The starting bid is $1,000.00

Pratt KS is a smaller town in Kansas, they have a good fire service, but stll small town. This is their old compressor and has a good number of hours on it. From looking at the photos, this compressor needs either a minor overhaul or possibly a major overhaul. I noted $1000. "Reserve not met" even at that price, I would expect you would put another $3000-$4000 into it to make it safe for scuba. I can't see the date of manufacturing in the one photo, so if it's on of the older ones, spare parts could be hard to find.

Also add another $500-$750 for shpping if you win. From Pratt to Valencia is about 1350 miles.

Service: At the least a minor overhaul, all the filters will need to be changed, all the lines should be cleared and cleaned, the oil will need to be changed (probably 15 qts).

I just bought used one from North Shore Compressors for $6500.00 that has a major fresh rebuild with 905 hours on the clock. That include three stage bottles, lines and all the hookups including a 8 foot fill hose. We had to put in 220 volt service with new electrical panel but it is up and running now. They are great people to work with.

Well, I think a measly 350 miles extra should qualify as "or so", eh?

North Shore charged us 250 bucks freight and the weight was just over 800lbs with everything. When it arrived we ended up paying another 50 bucks for lift to get to the ground. We broke everything down that we could then use car skates to move the compressor in. We pump the stage bottles up little over 5000psi but normally we keep them at 4500psi.

I think about this every time I see one of these for sale. But I just don't trust that I will do it right
