GPS/Sat Nav

I have some friends on their way over to the States from Australia - they are doing a load of driving around while they are there.

Rather than getting lost all the time they are thinking of buying a Sat Nav.

Can someone give me a bit of advice on buying Sat Navs in the US.

1. Where is a good "bricks and mortar" place to go buy one?
2. Do they come with all US states loaded?
3. How easy / cheap is it to load up Australin maps when they bring it home?

Any brands/models that fit the bill for use on holdiay in the US and then back here in Australia would be great. Prices to excpect would be handy too.

Thanks

Gav

I'd recommend you look at Garmin, they are a top notch company with an outstanding reputation in marine, aviation, trail and automotive use. I currently own several Garmin units and find them easy to use and reliable. And Garmin's customer service is very good.

You might consider the Garmin nüvi® there are a number of different models. Walmart is probably the most prolific "brick & mortar" you can get them from. Here's a list of models the sell ranging from just over $100USD to over $500USD. Walmart.com: Electronics: GPS & Navigation: Garmin

Below is a link to the add-on maps for Australia. Make sure that whatever unit you choose, they are compatible with the add-on map. The Garmin site will assist in what units will work with the Australian maps.

+1 on the Garmin. Good company with good global maps & support.
