History Channel's Goliath Grouper

Anyone else watch this particular episode of "Monster Quest" about the Goliath Grouper and chuckle to themselves? Seems to me they were making a big deal about a rather average size Goliath...

I saw it, and yes I chuckled. Only because about three weeks ago I came across one that was a giant in my eyes. I'm not sure, but it probably was 200+ lbs. They get bigger than that, but it was big to me. Also have to remember the 33% magnification factor, but still.

I've seen the show, yes, it's a big grouper. But I have seen bigger. I have to agree with UT Orange: a lot of hyperbole. I liken it to frightening the masses who don't know better.

I saw one in the Dry Tortugas that looked like it was the size of a VW bug.

And I saw his cousin hanging out on the deck of the Adolphus Busch. By far the biggest one I have ever seen.

That show is a total waste of time (except for the one on the "killer squid" because it had some good diving scenes).

I've seen that one a few times. It's huge. Friends estimate it to be around 400 lbs. It's little buddy is about 200 lbs.

I like most things on the History Chanel and I'm a sucker for most UW videos, However, Monster Quest is pretty lame. I find that almost anything on Animal Planet & National Geographic is worth watching. Especially anything to do with oceans like "Blue Planet Sea of Life". The series has been on many times but I still find it fascinating. The cameramen took some amazing video and give a fascinating view of animal behavior.
