It's been asked before, but who cares?

I got hooked in 1969 at a Scout Expo in KC, MO Kemper Arena. An Explorer post had a 72steel setup to display, on look, and talking to the guys and gals for 20 minutes and I was hooked. I got a snorkel set the next year and was the scourge of every pond, lake and pool I could get to. I got certified in 1974 through YMCA. I was very fortunate as I read every book on diving I could get including the US Navy dive manual os when it came time to take the class, the instructor took a chance at teaching a yound upstart that was below the minimum age of 15 to take the class-we lied about my age on the app. As it was, I passed the written with a 99% and did a good on the OW.

It's simple: Because it kicks ass

I did it once on a discover scuba dive in Cancun and it's been on ever since

I got tired of looking at the corals, sponges, fish and other marine life at the aquariums and I decided I wanted to see them in their natural enviroment.

I was able to attend the boy scout national jamboree in 2001 where I was able swim around in a pool with some gear on. I never got around to getting certified untill this past month. I decided it would be a get away from everything hobby and it is!

I grew up on a lake swimming and snorkeling all the time... and I always thought it would be cool to be able to do scuba.

On my honeymoon last year I finally had an opportunity to give it a try, and my wife and I did a "Discover Scuba" class in St. Lucia. As soon as I took my first breath under water I was hooked! Luckily my wife was too... so we made plans to get certified before our next trip!

I had been snorkeling for five years and really enjoyed it. Then in the winter of 2007 did a couple of discover scuba shore dives at Grand Cayman. That's all it took for me to know that I would love diving. I got certified in May of 2008 and wish I had started this years ago. Underwater flying is how I describe it to others. Getting to see all of the life under the water is amazing.

I used to watch Jacques Cousteau on TV and was enamored by the mystery.
