I do not open carry, that is inviting an incident, and that is something that I would like to avoid if I can, if it can not be avoided, well then, let the large round with the more accurate person behind the round win. The CHL class here in Texas is not hard, basically past a test, that.. if you can pass OW, you can pass this test, past a back ground check, which can be harder for some people then passing the OW test lol, and qualify with the "style" of weapon that you wanna carry, i.e. revolver or semi-auto, a semi-auto quals you to carry a wheel gun, but a wheel gun can not qual you for a semi-auto, and in my opinion if you can't qual with either... you have NO business owning a weapon. Period.

Funny you ask...I asked that of Compudude once . Actually, I work the night shift at EMS in Wichita, 1900-0700. If it's my slow post ,I have plenty of time to post afterthe chores are done.

I've been the guy who had to knock at 1:00 in the morning once. A bad accident which I was on the fringe of-car was wrecked but I was pretty much ok. I had to walk/hobble about a mile to the closest house to get 911 started. I knocked on the door loudly and then stepped back into the front yard and asked them to call 911. It was all good in the end-everyone made it. I went back to the farm house a week later with a thank you gift for calling. They were nice folks.
Ahh another Ems brother on the board. My shift Tuesday was horrible. Our whole area was "blowing up" from some reason. It was not a weekend, payday, holiday or welfare check day. 17 calls in 24 hours with 11 transports 3 refusal, the rest no patients or disregards. Plus I had to switch units three times. Two of em broke down.

That is a good reason to knock on someones door!
I live in a small horse shoe shaped neighborhood and have never seen that women or truck around here before. hopefully stuff around the house won't come up missing!
But ya did the right thing, that is what matters.

At least you guys have a proficiency test. Oregon requires that you take a short class on gun safety and use of force laws, but you never have to fire a weapon. Washington doesn't even require a class, just a background check. Makes me nervous how many people with licenses here couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

You are correct qualifying part! In louisiana you can qualify with what ever you want but what you carry has to be regestered with the state police. What is the worst is at the range when the "gangsta" has his "9"with the 20rd. mag but the target looks like it was shot with at shot gun at 10ft. !

Well, quick little funny story... First time I got my CHL we had several people on the range after all the class room work was done. Now directly to my right was a short little gal, who did good on the test and in the class room, and on my left was a "gangsta" wanna-be who didn't hardly pay attention in the class, didn't ask ANY questions, and barely passed the test. The little gal, was shooting EVERYTHING besides the target in her lane at 5 yards! To include the ceiling, my target, and the target of the person on the other side of her. The "gangsta" did have a fancy looking "flashy" pistol with an extended mag hanging out, and he couldn't hit the broad side of a freight liner!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say, I dropped my mag, locked open my breach and stepped off of the firing line requesting that the instructor, either remove these 2 people, or test me WELL away from them, as they were both a safty hazard. The instructor, removed both people from the firing line, and the rest of the class continued.

I always remember that just because someone thinks you're paranoid, does not mean someone is NOT out to get you... I personally prefer the descriptor: Vigilant and cautious.

As far a shooting at the range stories, I had a guy at a range near me that just screamed "Gangsta!" He was shooting a cheap 9mm-sideways and of course he group at 10' was worse than mine at 25 yards. We he asked me how I could choot so good, I just tolkd him practice. I was not going to give pointers to a guy that was likely to do drive-bys later.

My dog usually cures most of the door knockers.
