And now I wait...

Since I work in EMS, we got our H1N1 vaccinations tonight. I opted for the nasal mist as there as a lot of folks that have to get the injectable due to pregnancy or or issues that necessitate the injectable. Now I get to wait and see if the bloody thing works without a lot of side effects or other issues.

As an aside, I have one friend that's already a H1N1 victim and so far she's doing okay.

So, for the next 3 days "I'm a carrier!!!!"

We've been waiting for the vaccinations at work (provider hasn't been able to get them). I was hoping to get this done before I leave for Bonaire, but it will have to wait. Don't want to get the vaccination right before I leave. My luck, I'll have some type of reaction to it or get sick, or get somebody else sick.

Snagel, try the health department. That is where I went because they had the first supply and lots of it. As long as you have a couple of days before your trip, you will know if you are going to have a problem with it. But it does take 1-2 weeks to provide immunity.

I'm in central Missouri and still we have not received either vaccinations (seasonal or Hinny) even at the Health Departments. Now, in KC and St. Louis they are lining up.

I have never had any sort of flu shot, and I think I was probably 8 or 9 years old the last time I had it...

Central OK has been out of both for a while now. The kids are supposed to be getting the h1n1 at school in the next few weeks. Very glad about that as what few clinics they had at the first of the month were all pretty far south of us and in rather rough neighborhoods.

Scratch that. My youngest got diagnosed with pig flu. I just hope our daughter doesn't come down with it too.

Same here, except I may have had a case of the flu about 12 years ago...never confirmed it, but was feeling so sick, it was either the flu or the worse common cold in history. I just don't believe in all these just-in-case meds they hand out like Halloween candy these days. Give it enough time and exposure, and we'll manage to mutate one hell of a killer bug that nothing will touch.

Last time I had a flu shot was during my ten-year Air Force tenure over 20 years ago. Mandatory formation.

TJ, viruses DO mutate, but they do not mutate because of the meds used to treat them or from the vaccines. Unlike bacterial infections treated with antibiotics. Like I said in another post, the vaccines are very important for those who really need them, myself being one of them this year, but if I was not in a high risk group, I don't think I would bother. Unless I was getting ready to embark on a long plane ride and could not afford to be sick on the trip. And if I had a healthy child who never got sick, I would take my chances for them too. But a child with frequent illnesses or an underlying condition, I might give them the vaccine.

The groups that are truly non negotiable are the immunocompromised and pregnant women. Pregnant women account for the highest number of H1N1 deaths so far. So Foo2, go for it.

After 2 days, I've had a short bout of a headache-about 3 hours not too bad of one though and a very low grade fever: 99.8 but that's about it. No problems with the live attenuated vaccine.

As for the flu vacc: I am a firm believer in it as I missed one year with EMS getting a vacc and had my butt literally kciked for a solid week and it took another 10 days to get back to 100% nothing like it when I gotthe shots. I have had a few days where I was puny but nothing like if I didn't get the vacc.

Now I don't buy into the mandatory vacc as places like NY has put into place. I do believe that all should have a choice. But all must also take the consquences of thier actions as well.
