...and incredibly biased. I was watching some show the other night on military hand combat tactics. Anywho, I found the gun disarm really cool for some reason so I YouTubed it. I came across these videos which I found kind alarming. Is it just me or are they stereotyping?

there is a place up in miramar about 45 minutes from my house, and they do this. they have classes i believe every night, and they do conditioning, and teach disarmament of knifes, guns, other weapons etc.. as well as hand to hand defense and a bunch of other situations than could easily occur in the real world.
i dont remember the name of the place, but i will get it for you and post it on here so you can look into it if you would like.

and you know what, it takes guts to grab a gun out of someones hands especially when its in your face. but i guess in life/death, you are better off trying than just dying.

Good stuff! I love how simple the moves are, and of course he makes look very easy (I imagine it takes loads of practice).

Are youe making reference to the big black guy being the agressor, and the small little asian looking guy doing all the cool take-aways?

I think the idea here was more to show that these techniques work on people bigger than you. And when was the last time you saw a 6'6" built white guy?

Seriously though, I'm sure those were just the two people in that dojo that wanted to make the movies. I don't think any stereotyping was intentionally ment. I'm a 5'6" white guy who can do most of the techniques that the asian guy was doing; a bunch of those movements are very similar to the Aikido I study.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. I guess you're right though about the body types...

I know that if I was in the situation that I would throw S@#T in his face and run. Where would I get S@#T from you ask. Believe me if he was sticking a gun in my face it would be in my pants.

...I'd probably throw some Scuba terminology in his face. It would comfort me at least before he shot me...

I'd tell him that I forgive him for what he's about to do and hope that him murdering me doesn't upseat him in too badly the long run. (It's fun being a Buddhist sometimes)

But that's only if he was to far away from me that I couldn't get his weapon.
