DIVE BUDDIES-who are they to you???

i will start by saying that my dive buddies are also 2 of my closest buddies. i have known both of these guys long before we got into diving, so i have a pretty good idea that they are good people that i can trust my life with when diving with them. i started working with Brad about 20 years ago at a job that he is still into and Russ; well Russ was always our mechanical fall back when we had car troubles to what ever degree. over the years some how SCUBA got thrown into the mix and i got sucked in somehow. but either way here we are and i would not want to dive with any one else. KUDOS to ya guys!!!! so, bottom line is that my dive buddies were just my everyday hangin' out buddies that i grew up with and learned to trust them top side. i now trust them at depth as well now too. so, lets here your stories about your dive buddies and what role they play in your life. do you all hang out even after SCUBA?

Bill

My dive buddy is my husband. We got certified together and have done almost all of our training together (he didn't do DEMP). We have a friend who buddies with the two of us quite often and we were friends long before certification.

My usual dive buddy is my brother-in-law - my sister's husband. We're headed to Palau in about 10 days. When son is diving with us we buddy up.

I didn't think my DH would ever get certified, and I didn't know anyone who dived, so I have met some dive buddies who I only know through diving. I am trying to bring in some people who I know outside of diving, so I've done discover scuba with my brother, DH (who did get certified), and I took my best friend snorkeling to give her an incentive to learn to swim so she can eventually dive. Now she's in St Croix snorkeling and I'm here working, so I'm thinking she's coming around

my sister

Used to be my sister but then she moved out of state.... now I am working on my husband more to get him to dive. I am a vacation diver anyway.

Former Dive Buddy - Ex Husband for more than just the obvious reasons

Current Buddies - Illini_Fan (who has survived every attempt to take his life), and who ever is brave enough to go with me.

Well my buddy Billy and I grew up together, and I do trust him with my life. I got certified and then not long after he got certified so we dive together often.

Then there is my Wife who was certified before me but had not dove in years until I got certified, so she is another one that I trust with my life any day.

Then I have a few guys that I have met on Scubaboard that I have done a few dives with and I would not dive with them again if I did not trust them.

Obviously the top two buddies (wife, Billy) I do see outside of diving. The other guys I have not but we have talked about it and I would hang out with them anytime. It is really just a matter of scheduling.

Phil
