How's that for a non-scuba question? Which one is going to win? Which one will better play back your home movies from Belize (or maybe it really is a dive question).

My bet would be Sony since they bought up major studios...

The answer is HD-DVD. The reason is price. Price trumps quality, witness Beta vs VHS, C band vs pizza box.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>In this case HD-DVD is half the price of blu-ray and it will win by that reason alone.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>In my case I've chosen HD-DVD for my personal format at home, I have a collection started and certainly hope it wins.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I know at my service schools that there's a lot of weight behind the Blu-Ray design and it does seem technically to be the one to choose. But, specs alone are not enough to win.</DIV>

I wish HD-DVD would win the format war but I have a feeling it will be Blu-Ray in the end.

This is why Bluray will win, content is everything. The technology and
price of HD-DVD is better, but no one cares about that. I am/was
pulling for HD-DVD, but I don't think they'll have a chance. I own
both, and both are excellent, but most of the time the movies I like
are on Bluray.

I believe blu-ray will end up winning but it will be a while yet. Blu-ray will start to come down in price as the HD starts to pick up consumers. Blu-ray will then take over the competition.
