What are Your Holiday Traditions?

Everybody's got 'em...from finding the pickle hidden in the tree to singing carols to the family drive looking at lights...

What are yours?

We do a family Christmas photo, this has been going on since I was in 6th grade. I know there are some outfits & hair style in there I would love to keep buried. It's great to see how all the kids have grown and how silly they are. Plus the dogs join in.

The one I miss the most... We would all have Christmas at my grandparents and after x-mas dinner and presents were over, all the men folk launched a poker game (w/ drinks and cigars) until the wee hours. I couldn't wait until I was old enough to play...

The kids now go to friends houses to check out gifts and be with their buddies/girlfriends. So, for the last couple of year, the wife and i have been going to the movies on Christmas.

What are your Rach?

Mom used to put code numbers on our gifts (4 kids) so that no one knew which ones belonged to who, or why there were more gifts for one kid. If you guessed the code you got all the presents..........strangly we never guessed right.
After getting married, wife's family has one of the guys without kids dress in full Santa costume and make an appearence for the smaller kids at the ranch/family party. "Santa" always has alot of helpers, and a bottle always magically appears in the bunk house during the "secret" wardrobe change. The cap always seems to get lost, Santa is always late, and I have often wondered if we have scarred any of our children. They all grew up thinking santa's beard smells of stale whiskey, and he sounds a little like family but with a thicker tounge.

I also would ask my mom what kind of whiskey Santa liked (after a visit to "rent-a-santa" in the mall) so we could leave him a glass of it instead old boring milk.....

For Xmas Eve and New years Eve there is no sit down dinner - Instead, we set the table up on those nights with shrimp, cold cuts, cheeses, various breads and types of crackers, relish trays, cookies and candies - wander in friends and family munch their way thru the evening. (Of course one year our Irish Setter joined in by stealing and eating an entire loaf of banana bread, but what the heck... its the holidays). hmmmmmm... now that I think of it, our new 60lb coonhound pup merits some watching this year!

Thanks for asking! Normally I'd be in Illinois with the extended family drinking egg nog and getting ready to go on a dive trip with the in-laws in early Jan, but since I'm already in a tropical locale and am not able to go to the States for the holidays, I had to get a little more creative:
