Ideas Needed :)

As most of you know, I am a stay-at-home-mom of 2. I absolutely LOVE being with my children during the days! The great & timeless mom debate is as follows:

Working mom: Feels guilty because she can't be at home with her children.
SAHM: Feels guilty because she isn't contributing to the family finances.

Simply put, it seems you can't win. Not only do I feel guilty because I don't conribute to the finances, but we could really use the extra cash to get rid of some debt. Sooooo, I am looking for work that I can do from home or that I can do at night after my husband gets home from work. The reality is that I will not be able to make enough money to justify putting my kids in daycare.

The kicker is I can't leave my house until close to 7PM due to my husband's job. So, that rules out resturaunts & most retail establishments. I really don't wanna work at a bar, for multiple reasons. And I'm begging you....please don't suggest watching other people's kids. I have been there and done that.....never again. At my previous job I was a secretary for 3 years. So I have good phone and clerical skills. Anyway, I've been looking for something that I can start at about 7PM and get off about 3AM. That way I can still sleep several hours before my kids wake up and then can take a nap when they do during the day.

Anyway, any ideas you guys might have are welcome! Help!

I know a friend of mine did some medical transcription from home. I'm not sure how they really got into it but worth a shot since you have good clerical skills. this was in Jacksonville florida. Not sure if it was a local thing or not.

Would you consider stuffing envelopes if the sticky stuff tasted like chocolate?

Do you guys have any idea how you get into that? Do you have to have any special certifications or degrees?

Medical Transcription is a good area. You can get a "quickie" certification from Ashworth University online.

Ashworth University - Master's Degree, Bachelors Degree, Associate Degree, Career Courses, High School Diploma, Online Diploma

It is fairly inexpensive and may get you in the door quicker or at a better place.

If you are internet savvy, you could start something quick and easy and try selling some items on ebay. I have liqudated things on there before and used it like a garage sale... made several hundred. It is worth it and you could start today. Just find some old stuff, take some pictures of the items on a WHITE blanket or towel with decent light and not much shadow and give a good description. I have sold used items for more than I purchased them before... bidding wars get hot.

Good luck.

have you maybe considered doing incomng service calls for say a plumber or electrician or other service or trade like that? I know a couple of my subcontractors use services.

Also the ebay is a good idea. The ex-MIL was making pretty good money doing that. Anything that didn't sell she sold in garage sales. She would hit all of the garage & estate sales in Denton.

You could check with the local Police Department / 911 service and see about a 7pm to 3am shift and dispatch.

Ok my wife is a medical transcriptionist. She has no formal training and you don't really need a degree but it does help. She has told some inquirers to get in touch with "at home proffesionals" not sure if thats correct. How she got into the business was she took a medical terminology class at a local hospital becasue all the area hospitals require it even if your just a secretary. First of all if you can't type then forget it. My wife could alredy type 70 wpm+ before she got into it. FOO if your interested PM me and I will ask her if I can give you her email and you can contact her. She presently types for a business on the East Coast and a local Dr here in Elkhart and she types about 30hrs a week and does very well for herself.
