Passive vs. Active Recreation

Within a recent SB thread one poster blasted PADI and DEMA for not sponsoring a NASCAR team because the economic demographics of NASCAR fans closely match those of divers. It got me thinking that while diving might appeal to those those actively involved in racing, it might not hold true for those watching racing.
I live in the heart of Patriots and Red Sox Nation and except for an occasional desire to have conversations with non-divers I really don't care what the teams are doing. I find that most of the folks I relate to well are usually doing something as opposed to watching something.
So, I wonder: How much of your recreation time is spent passively, and doing what? And how much of your recreational time is spent being active and what things other than diving are you also doing?

If I'm not working I'm either diving, or playing golf. Not a big TV guy, other than Heroes, and 24. In the fall I'll take in an occasional Gators, or Jaguars football game, but if the weather's nice I'm not going to sit around the house...

When I wasn't using up all my "recreation time" gutting and renovating the old house I bought, I only spent a small percentage of my time on passive activities... a weekly episode of LOST, and maybe a movie, some local music, or attending an occasional Sox or Bruins game. Unless the home team's in the finals, I don't much care for sports on TV, with the possible exception of liking to watch the All-Blacks in the rugby world cup or tri-nations tournament.

Between diving, DIY, cooking, sculpting, writing, guitar, mandolin, rafting, boating, skiing, and all the many other things I like to do, I can't be bothered to pay much attention to the games other people are playing. I honestly don't think I could sit through an entire NASCAR race.

Wow, I definitely fit into the NASCAR thing.......I have just recently changed all the stickers on my jeep and clothing and everything from an "8" to an "88" .......I don´t watch every race, but for example on sundays we either dive in the morning and watch the race in the marina in the afternoon, or we fish and listen to the race on the satellite radio on our boat.....I don´t think it is as black and white as passive and active.....but I don´t really see very many divers with the "v-neck t-shirt with the mustard stain" and CAT caps on......

When I have time inbetween working, diving, teaching diving, fishing, hunting, gardening, home improvements, working on my cars, working on friends cars I tend to spend my time reading (books or internet) visiting w/ family and brewing beer( drink the home brew when visiting family).

With all the things I like to do I do not sit and watch sports or racing. There is always something better to do.

I wouldn't say I'm active, as I don't have alot of free time to work out or play sports. I don't usually watch sports or keep up with them, other than conversations with coworkers while at work. I would much rather play a sport than watch it, but since I have no time to do either I can't put myslef in the active catagory. I'm an active forum member though.
