Conserve for the sake of the earth. - No debates on Global Warming, who is right, who is wrong, just what you do to not use as much.
For me and my family: 1. All bulbs are compact flourescent energy bulbs 2. Changed all of the spickets on the faucets to 1.5 gallon per minute flow from 2.0 gallon per minutes 3. Installed Navy style shower heads in all showers so you can get wet, shut her off, soap up, turn her on and rinse. 4. Tinted all of my light facing windows with a solar film. 5. Purchased digital thermometers to control the AC/Heat 6. Have all flat screen or plasma style tv's instead of CRT's, same with monitors for computers 7. Open the windows and shut down the hvac system anytime we can open the house up and be comfortable. 8. Never throw away anything that can be re-used. Always give it away. How about you?? |

I use the CF bulbs and the digial thermostat. I would really like the navy-style shower heads, but they're kinda pricy and I haven't lived in one place long enough to invest. I'm not sure where you are, but here in Texas, there's maybe a week or two worth of weather every year good enough for the opening of the house to nature.

![]() Most of the things I do that conserve the earth I do for the selfish reason of saving money. You live in Lubbock and cant open up the house? Back in the day in East Texas Id open the winders in March and close em in November. Had one room with an A/C that you were in if you needed to cool off. Same concept in winter... ![]() |

In addition to the bulbs I carpool to work at least 3 days a week and even though we keep the air at 80 in the summer (here in Southern AZ that's as much as 30 degree difference from outside in the summer) and the heat at 67...yes, it gets cold enough here for the heat for a couple of weeks...tonight its 31. We also put baskets on our bikes and ride those to the grocery store and for lots of errands. Granted the bikes only take about 10-12 miles a week off the car odometer but every little bit helps not to mention riding with bags of groceries and cases of dog food is great for the cardio

Not if I'm not willing to dust for the next two weeks.
Lubbock really isn't that bad weather wise, it's just all the dirt, and dust that gets everywhere because of all the wind. I don't know how you did it living in East Texas with the March/November deal though. I've spent most of my life in the DFW area, and if our house was set up like you describe yours, then I'd probably of spent all my time in that one room. ![]() Honestly, it's the humidity that bothers me, not so much the heat/cold. I could never live south of Dallas (Houston/Auston/Galviston) because it's just too muggy. The lack of humidity and reasonable temperature ranges out in Lubbock has been it's saving grace; otherwise I would of left it long ago from the lack of trees and the general brown color everything else is. My time living in NY has made me miss everything being green. ![]() |

TableLeg... I purchased my navy shower heads for about $5 at Wal-Mart. - Here is a link to buy them online for $4.82. They really add alot of oxygen to the water and high pressure even if your water pressure is low - not to mention you can save a ton by turning on and off:

I pledge to never take fuel wasting airline flights when traveling to dive destinations.
When shopping for a liveaboard dive trip, I pledge to use only boats that are 100% sail, to save the reef and marine critters from dirty diesel fuel. I will not stay in oceanfront resorts, and the runoff and pollution impact are unacceptable to the marine environment. I pledge to limit my impact as a diver on unique marine ecosystems. If I arrive at a preferred dive spot and another group is already there, I will request that we move to another site in order to reduce impact. I will leave my big camera on the boat since my buoyancy skill are not what I think they are and carrying the camera results in unintended damage to the reef. I think if we all pledge to do these things the ocean will be a cleaner place. ![]() Rich |
