Dive Related Books
Thanks all who contributed to the list so far. Please help if you can!
Working on a fairly complete list. Like to have the "title" in quotes, author, type of book, short discription, and perhaps an inbedded hotlink to a place to purchase. Also could be organized by type...Fiction, Instructional, Identification Books, Mystery, etc. Anythoughts, Additions, or Edits are very welcome! “Scuba Diving Safety” by Orr/Douglas “Diver Down: Real-world accidents and how to avoid them.” by Michael Ange "Down Time; Great Writers on Diving " by Ed, Casey, and Jim Kittrell. Pretty good book with short stories, adventures and experiences on first timers and advanced divers. “Shadow Divers” by Kurson. The best dive-related book I have ever read! “Shadow Divers Exposed” “The Sea Hunters” by Clive Cussler. True stories of finding and identifying shipwrecks. "The Last Dive." Just finished it the other night, and man, what a great read. Covers everything, from warm water Bahamas, to Ginnie Springs, to Dutch Springs in PA, to NJ and Canada wrecks, even the Andrea Doria. Don't fo get the unterseeboots (U-boats in German). "Neutral Buoyancy" It is fabulous. It is a history of diving, well written. “Cayman Cowboys” by Eric Douglas. Fiction “Flooding Hollywood” by Eric Douglas. Fiction “ The Certified Diver's Handbook” by Clay Coleman; “ Reef Fish Identification Book” Series by Paul Humann and Ned Deloach; “Reef Fishes: Corals and Invertebrates of The Caribbean” by Elizabeth Wood & Lawson Wood. “Diving the China Wreck” “Deep Descent” “Simple Guide to Commercial Diving” “Taming of The Slough” “Deep Diving” “Solo Diving” “The Last dive” “The Cave Divers” “No Safe Harbor” “The Silent World” “The Hell Divers Rodeo” I thought this book was awesome and funny: A Deadly, X-Treme, Scuba-Diving, Spearfishing, Adventure Amid the Off Shore Oil Platforms in the Murky Waters of the Gulf of Mexico “The Sea Hunters” I and II “Fireside Diver” “Cause of Death” by Patricia Cornwell is very good. I'm reading it now and can't put it down. Warning: You may never want to dive with a hookah setup after reading this. “Hiding on the Bottom” by James Rosemond. I picked up the book and couldn't hardly put it down. about regulators: SCUBA REGULATOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR by Vance Harlow The Reef Set: Reef Fish, Reef Creature and Reef Coral (3 Volumes) (Reef Set) by Paul Humann and Ned DeLoach http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/187...C4KI0 KNDBOLT |

"Doing It Right: The Fundamentals of Better Diving" by Jarrod Jablonski (Decent read, could/should be much longer)
Amazon.com: Doing it Right: The Fundamentals of Better Diving: Books: Jarrod Jablonski Amazon has it used for $100. Not sure what those sellers are thinking. Buy it straight from the source at GUE's site "Scuba Diving Explained" by Dr Lawrence Martin (GREAT factual book covering gas laws/affects on body/nitrogen theory/and other techinical sides of diving) Amazon.com: Scuba Diving Explained: Questions and Answers on Physiology and Medical Aspects of Scuba Diving: Books: Lawrence Martin "Diving Science" Forgot the author. Sorta like "Scuba Diving Explained", but not so dry. Easier to read. Amazon.com: Diving Science: Books: Michael Strauss,Igor V. Aksenov Last edited by FishFood : 12-20-2007 at 03:12 PM. |

"The Devils Teeth" by Susan Casey
This book is not really about diving but is a great book on great white sharks. True story about the Farallone Islands off the coast of San Francisco and the biologists involved in studying the natural feeding habits of great white sharks. Think you had a bad dive trip? After reading what these guys go through, you won't come close to what they have to endure. Fascinating and scary at the same time. Anyone who loves GW sharks needs to read this book. |
