Question Cruise experiences, the good and bad

I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise in early 07, (lots of Saint ports)… anyway I did 2 dives (wanted to do more but it wasn’t a dive cruise…).. anyway a guy that dove with us got his knife taken away getting back on the boat… but my Scuba Toys Knife integrated console was just fine… never even got a second look…. Anyway when he protested, they told him he could get it back at the end of the cruise… he then enquired about his next shore excursion when he would be diving again, they told him no, it would be locked up until we returned to Miami….

Other than a few “scares” about losing access to my equipment until the end of the cruise, it was a hell of a good time!

Anyone have this happen to them??

We take yearly cruises and have been both on Royal carribean and carnival. Security always takes my kife, however everytime I left the boat to go diving security would have it for me at the tender. When I returned to the boat I gave it back to security. After the cruise was over they returned my knife.

Yes its an inconvience but ohh well.

I was questioned about mine on the evening before we returned to port. I had gotten off and on with it twice that week and noone had noticed. As I was returning the 3rd time a guy noticed, but since it was so close to the end of the cruise he let me keep it.

And to think, I used to carry a lock blade knife on airplanes. I would just put it in the basket along with my change and keys and hand it to the security person while i walked through the metal detector. Man, how things have changed.....

What is sad is I had a buddy that carried a fully loaded Mag (not the gun just the mag) onto a plane..(ps it was post 9/11...) he forgot and left it in a brief case... they scanned it sent it on through... he only noticed on the way back had to drop it into a fedex box and ship it home...

We did a Celebrity cruise once with our dive gear. Although we had a great time diving all the ports of call, we decided that conventional cruising and diving just don't match for us. Our next 2 cruises were on the Nekton Pilot and we know that the liveaboard lifestyle is perfectly suited to us.

I've only been on one for a weekend and it was a nice time in the Bahammas with Royal Carribbean. Only did some snorkeling with the people i was with since they weren't certified at that time.

Would like to go on a longer cruise where there is more diving now that my wife and friends are certified.

Does anyone know if they'll take a z-knife or medic shears away from you?

I've thought about a short cruise sometime but don't know if I would enjoy it. I've got a couple of free rides on USAirways which could take me to Miami Or Ft. Laud where I could connect with a cruiseline to maybe go to Coz for one day's diving. Big problem is that they advertise a cheap rate and when you click in that you are traveling alone the price doubles. Bul*****.

I just came back from a 7 day cruise with Royal Caribbean. We went to Coco Cay, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten.

We did the Scuba Diver course on board since we just werent' able to work our schedules out to get certified before we left, so we did our first two open water dives, as well as the pool work, in St. Maarten. Really cool! Except for the fact that tropical storm Olga was through right before us and stirred everything up so we couldn't see a thing.

but the instructor was great and we had a really good time. and now I can't wait to get certified!

didn't have any knives, all I had was personal gear so I had no problem there.
