not sure what type of format you are sending but I think windows media player needs it to be in .WMV format. Also if the file size is to large some ISP won't allow you to attach it in an email.

File too big?

Maybe the file is too big. I found this on Kim Komando's website awhile back and I have used it from time to time. It's virus and spamware clean
and you or the recipient don't end up with a bunch of unwanted email
as a result of using it. Link is at the bottom of this page:

DVD Handycams are a pain in the butt for the exact reason pointed out above, it saves as DVD. You need to convert to WMV, and they SHOULD have that software included w/your camera. PS - Don't lose that software, or you are up sh!t creek.

My advice - put it back in the box, and exchange for a Handycam with a hard drive...

I use a product called YASA Video Converter to convert anything to anything else (well almost anything). It does a great job in converting DVD A/V to MPEG or WMV. Here's the web site: Convert AVI to MPEG, Convert ASF to MPEG - YASA Video Converter

As already mentioned, the best plan is to convert to some computer format, if it's Windows on both ends then WMV is easiest. I am not familiar with the DVD units, so this information may not be correct but it's how I do it with my tape based unit...

Your camera will most likely have a Firewire/1394 connection, most modern laptops also have it but not so much on PC's, you may have to buy a Firewire card for a PC. Use the Wikipedia link below to see if your camera/PC have Firewire/1394 connectors. Firewire 400 will be fast enough, no need to buy Firewire 800 unless you just want to.

Connect the camera to the PC with a Firewire cable and run Windows Movie Maker.. it's easy to use and fairly intuitive.
