pre surgery freakout

Ok, so here is the deal. I am going in to get my gallbladder taken out in about 24 hours and I have offically started to freak out. (the hardest thing for me is the IV, it really makes me nerovous and nausous to think about it).

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas of things I can do tonight and tomorrow to get me though the countdown?

Thanks in advance.

Anything to keep your mind off of it. Movies, hobbies, reading, whatever. Gall bladder surgery is fairly routine. My mom had it done and it really wasn't a big deal. Only 2 or 3 small incisions. I think she even got a video of the procedure. Try not so stress too much. Good luck tomorrow!

Drink heavily.

I don't watch when they start IVs, they bother me as well...

Just keep busy, it's a pretty easy surgury. I've had some friends do it and it was amazing at how easy it was, and how they did it just blew me away. I figured they'd have some big scar, but nope. Can't even see it unless you know exactly where to look.

It's no big deal, just keep busy and you'll do fine.

I had knee surgery back in May. I'm assuming they put you under for the galbladder ... If so, I did learn not to take ANY medications the night before ... as it can make coming out of the anesthesia a bit of a nightmare. I took a sleeping pill to make sure I got a good nights sleep ... went in for 1 hour surgery at 11:00 and didn't come out of the anethesia until 5:30 (my surgeon gave up on me and went home for the night!!!) then I was super nausious every time I moved. I have a rock iron stomach and have never had that kid of reaction to anesthesia before ... apparently it was the sleeping pill.

... Good luck to you - read a good book and take it with you to the hospital.

Talking about your Concerns

Be around family and friends; and keep busy having more interesting/important things to do to get your mind off it. Talking to someone about your concerns is also ideal. Especially if they have had a similar procedure or are experts in the field. I am sure all will go well and wish you a speedy recovery.

Best wishes, I'm sure things will go smoothly.
As to passing the time, lets see if you can reach 500 posts before you leave!
And, when they are ready to start the IV, I would suggest being deeply involved in a very vivid fantasy - the rating - G, PG R or better is up to you!
