Is this a good deal?

Hello all...

through the Magic of craigslist.com, i found a local seller who is liquidating his scuba equipment and getting rid of some (he has 10) Al80 Catalina Cylinders for $100 dollars each with a current hydro.. They include rubber boot and the rubber net wrap on the tanks and only need to have a visual. (the seller swears they will pass visual). They also all have a sherwood K valve on them.

So my question.. Is that a good price for an aluminum 80 with the accessories???

I am new to the tank buying game, but since the LDS has tanks for 175 without the boots and stuff.. i thought it was a good deal.

(PS if anyone lives on long island and can get my cash before friday i would be willing to get one of these tanks for you when i go friday morning to pic it up.

$100 and in current hydro?
Yes it's a good deal. Vis should be another $7-$12.
get as many as you can afford.

It's not a bad deal by "brand new from the LDS" standards, but I regularly see steel 72s for under $50 on craigslist. I guess it depends on what you're comparing it to.

How much should it cost me to them a current VIP?

Does anyone think it is worth it to just buy a new tank? If my math works out its kind like this;

2 used al80's with boot and mesh for $200 + a VIP for both (estimate) $30 = $230

2 new tanks with mesh/boot with current VIP= $320.

If the VIP's are not current Id go ahead and spin off the valves and take a peak inside myself.If they were comptetrly empty Id worry about the valves as well and pass.

I sold similar with new hydro and a visual for $80. Throw the nets away as they are a PITA.

If you are diving locally that means thick wetsuits or a drysuit. This means lots of lead. I would prefer to have a steel so that I would not be carrying so much lead.
