I think he's talking about independent doubles. I think Dive Rite has the option of soft band doubles with their Transpac.

I've seen the Remora system which uses soft band connected to s center piece: Dive Rite Remora tank mounting system reviews and discounts, Dive Rite and there are several others out there that are similar and a little less expensive. The problem is you need 2 of these and a total of 4 bands. Your best bet even for independent doubles is to get a set of bands. They are a whole lot easier to deal with

ETA: Found the OMS system as well: OMS Cylinder Soft Bands and Cylinder Adapters http://www.OMSdive.com pricey at $190.

thanks for the info, yes the set up im looking at doing is independant twins (not side mount). the reason for the soft straps is that i will be using the set up for a bit of travel with weight being an issue.

You may want to shoot a pm to ianr33 here on the board. If I recall, he had a set up similar to that once on a dive vacation using rental tanks.

This is the system I used
Ultimate Velcro Double Bands by Capt. Dan Berg

They work really well, especially with rental 80's. The only downside is that you need to ignore DIR types calling them "suicide twins" !!

Think I paid something like $120 for them after a lot of internet searching.

Those look a lot like the OMS bands. How are they with velcro? Can you keep them tight enough?

Yes they are tight enough. The locking device is similar to that on regular camstraps ,the velcro just holds the loose ends down.
Best to wet the straps before using them.Once had a tank slip out before I learnt that.

I've used something similar to the velcro double bands myself. (Are a friend of mine's who loaned them to me when I went diving over seas last year and they just call them 'soft bands', but don't know if this is their real name).

They connect to the BC the same as s/steel bands. (2 bolts through the back, with thumb screws), and lock to the tank similar to cam bands (as ianr33 mentioned).

Not bad for traveling. I never had any trouble with slippage though, but I guess like all cam band stuff, it's best to wet them first.
