weight diff from steel to alum.

Greetings everyone!! Im going on a cruise to Grand Cayman and Cozumel in two weeks and need some advice. Ive only dove steel 100's with 6lbs. and chances are the dive excursions Im going on use aluminum tanks. I know there are variables(all other gear) but what do you think I would need as far as weight is concerned if all else were equal. BTW, my steel's are -10 full and -2.5 empty. Thanks....

My experience is that there is about a 6# difference between diving steel 85's than aluminum 80's. So a HP 100 should be in the same balpark.

Luxfer 80 is +3.4 lbs @ 500LBS That would be about 6 Lbs difference. I am not sure what the difference would be if they use Genesis tanks but if I am able to find it I will post it for you.

al80 tank buoyancy when empty is +4 lbs (there are other models with different values) but double check that once you get to your resort. so, if your steel tank is -2 lbs then the difference is 6 lbs. if everything else is equal, then add 6 lbs.

Genesis is 4lbs.
Scuba.com has a great listing of tanks including all the weights, dimensions and buoyancy.

Don't forget that if you go from fresh water to salt water you're going to need more weight than the 6 lbs extra for the tank.
