BP and Pony question
Can you mount a pony if you are using a BP/W or is it adviseable? I know most people use doubles or sling a pony with a BP, but I was just curious.
Some dive ops require the use of a pony (or doubles), and I am thinking of switching to a BP. Don't own any tanks at the moment, and was wondering how I would manage the pony if renting one, without converting to doubles. Would I have to sling it or is there a way to attach it to the tank or BP and not have problems. |

There are brackets available that permit you mount a small pony on your cylinder.
Zeagle Pony Bottle Attachment Is it advisable for doubles? Don't know. PM Scott Seagle on this forum

It shouldn't be a problem at all. Anything that will work for mounting on any other BC will work on a backplate just as well, and you'll have additional options (like slinging) besides that. The easiest thing might be to buy a cylinder, so you don't have to deal with rigging rentals. If you're interested, I have a brushed finish AL40 with current vis and hydro I'd sell you, but it may not be that much cheaper than buying new after shipping. Asgard's kinda far away.

I've had my 19 cuft AL mounted to my cylinder with a Diverite Remora quick release mount. When I use this mount I slide my weight belt a few inches off center to compensate.
I also have a 30 cuft AL that I have rigged with a sling and have had not issues with is clipped on on my right side from my shoulder D-ring to the waist D-ring.

But remember. The God of Thunder said he rents tanks. So the typical piggy back (pic a pac) systems means he must carry hardware to install on rental tanks.
Attaching to the plate or slinging makes more sense.

Yeah, I love my mount. Out of the way and secure. During a dive, I don't even know it's there. The first pic is with my original 13 CF. The second is with the 19 I currently use. No difference in feel between the two. ![]() ![]() |
