Spare Air or Pony?

What do you guys use? Why? What do you get charged to fill them?

Spare air you fill off your tank. A pony - depending on the size, a shop will probably hit you 3-5 bucks.

I don't use either. If I had to choose one, I'd prefer to carry a pony simply because it's more air.

I would use a pony. I don't think the spare air system offer's enough air to make it worth carrying. I like the idea of having a complete high quality regulator and enough air to allow me to work through a problem and hold a safety stop. For the same money as a spare air, you can have a system that's far more versatile.

So a pony gives you more air than spare air??

Do many people dive with these? Even with just recreational diving? I don't think I've ever seen them on any trips. If you were solo diving they'd have to be a must, but if you were doing a recreational dive with a buddy, why add the extra equipment?

The large spare is actually only 3cf and according to the company, gives 50+ breaths at the surface.
